Making a claim
If a claim is made upon you by a third party please contact your broker or our claims department as soon as possible.
Send any correspondence you have received from the third party or their representatives to us straight away, unanswered.
It is very important that you do not discuss or admit liability as we will take steps to determine whether we consider you will attract any legal liability.
We will ask you for full details of the incident and may appoint our legal representatives to investigate on our behalf.
It will be of assistance if you can attach a letter outlining your version of events.
Before submitting your claim please check your policy and schedule to see if you are covered and make yourself aware of any limits or exclusions that may apply. A copy of your policy wording and schedule can be provided by your broker alternatively call our claims department.

If you contact us by telephone please have your policy number to hand together with details of the claim being made upon you.
If you email or write to us please enclose any correspondence you may have received from the third party or their reprensentatives, together with a covering letter outlining your version of events.
Before sending any documents and the claim form to us please make a copy for your records.
What will happen next
We will register the details of the claim against you and provide you with a unique reference number which you should quote in any future correspondence with us.
Our claims department will assess the details of the claim being made upon you and aim to contact you within five working days to inform you of the next steps.
Depending on the nature of the claim being made upon you we may request further information from you or the third party. Alternatively we may instruct a solicitor to investigate the matter and advise us of the legal position.
If a solicitor is instructed they will contact you within seven working days to acknowledge their involvement and make provisional investigations They will report to us with their advice and recommendations on legal liability and policy coverage. The solicitor will be responsible for all correspondence with the third party or their representatives on our behalf.
Will an excess be applied?
You will not be required to pay an excess in the event of a liability claim being made upon you.
What is a solicitor?
A solicitor is a member of the legal profession who is qualified to deal with legal matters. They will investigate to establish whether they consider you would be held legally liable for the injury or damage caused. They will report to us with their advice and recommendations on legal liability and policy coverage. The solicitor will be responsible for all correspondence with the third party or their representatives on our behalf.
Will I have to pay any legal costs?
We will pay for the legal costs involved subject to those costs being incurred with our consent in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.
Should I discuss the matter with the third party?
It is very important that you do not discuss or admit liability as we will take steps to determine whether we consider you will attract any legal liability. Please forward all correspondence you may receive to us, unanswered.
Does a claim affect my no claims bonus?
If a claim is made upon this section of your policy your no claims bonus will be affected.
How will losing my no claims bonus affect my insurance premiums?
For each claim free year you have you are eligible for a discount. You will automatically receive a discount each year, up to a maximum of five claim free years. When a claim is made upon this section of your policy your discount will reduce and your premium will increase on renewal of your policy.
How long will the process take?
The overall time taken to deal with a claim made against you is dependent upon a number of factors. These are often complicated cases but you will be informed of any significant developments and of the outcome.
