With hot weather continuing throughout the summer, here are some tips from Integra on how to stay cool and keep the home protected.
Barbecue safety
If enjoying a summer barbecue, ensure that the proper safety precautions are taken. Position the barbecue away from any trees, fences or other flammable objects, keep children and pets away from the barbecue, and never leave a lit barbecue unattended. Do not dispose of hot embers in a bin.
Mirrors and reflective surfaces
Take care to avoid direct sunlight being concentrated by reflective surfaces and glass objects and igniting flammable material nearby, such as blinds or curtains. Keep mirrors away from windows and avoid placing other reflective or glass objects in places where they may catch the sun.
Lithium-ion batteries
Lithium-ion batteries are used in a variety of devices around the home, including mobile phones, laptops and tablets, but can be sensitive to high temperatures. Keep electronic devices away from the sun and any hot surfaces, do not leave them unattended while charging, and ensure that they are unplugged when fully charged.
Windows and doors
Make sure to shut and lock windows and doors when leaving the home, even for a short period, to guard against theft.
Keeping windows and doors open in hot weather allows warm air to enter the home and increases the indoor temperature. Let cooler air in by opening windows in the evening, or early in the morning, then keep them closed during the day.
